Wow, it's been a while.

Ever had the urge to run out the door and down the street, screaming at the top of your lungs?
I have that urge right now.
...well, I usually have the urge to run out the door and down the street, but not while screaming.
ANYWAY, I've been feeling über-stressed. Friday was very nice. I got to see my girlfriend (love you, dear), I had frozen yogurt, I didn't totally die in yoga. Nice things. Happy things.
Saturday, I went to a con. It was fun. I now have an exploding TARDIS poster.
Sunday...oh dear.

Anyway, I'm going to try to start updating this blog, since Buzz is going away...
Not like I have much to say at the moment, tho.
Any suggestions (for stories or comic pieces and the like) would be appreciated.

Weakness

Yesterday, I saw the original Terminator movie in all its '80s cheesiness. One of the things I hated most about it was that Sarah Connor was weak. She had no emotional strength for most of the movie. I understand historical artifacts need to be viewed from the perspective of the time, but women could fight in the '80s! She was so subservient and babyish that I actually started yelling at her when she did another thing to prove it. AT the end of the movie, Dad remarked that I would like her much better in the second movie. I'm guessing he's right from what I've heard. (I still haven't seen T2.)

Today, at camp, there was an "adaptive sports" camp at the rec center. (This is a nice way of saying it's for disabled kids.) We were going to go play a few games with them, and to level the playing field, we had to be in wheelchairs. So we got in the wheelchairs and promptly were very bad at moving in them. We practiced for a while, and then played Sharks & Minnows. (I wasn't playing, because we were two wheelchairs short.) When we started playing soccer, I traded out and found that moving in a wheelchair takes a good deal of practice. (It's also a really good arm workout.) It made me think about how it's really hard to respect what people confined to a wheelchair have to put up with until you've actually been in one for a while. These kids were leaving us in the dust when we didn't have the benefit of legs.

So. Weakness. It comes in different types: emotional and physical being the two most apparent here.
It just goes to show that some people take a long time to grow up and others are strong despite some form of disadvantage.
Thoughts?

The Subtleties of Change

CHANGE.
My family is not so good with certain types of it. I mean, we're not absent-minded about dates and whatnot, but all the clocks in the house are off by however much and we're lost without cell phones when DST starts/ends. When I was little and Devilspawn had been brought back from the hospital, I was annoyed because nobody cared about me anymore. So, I asked my mother, "When is [Devilspawn] going back to the hospital?"
A similar thing happened when my dad's-side aunt, who was a single mother, married my uncle. My oldest cousin (and my aunt's only child) remarked, "I liked you better when you were Mommy's boyfriend."
Because, you see, there's something else my family is bad with.
SUBTLETY.
My mother once told me I'd inherited the [Saxon] subtlety when I explained to, coincidentally, my aunt and uncle that Mom was sensitive about her height in relation to mine. I'm taller than she is.
And I'm fine with that. But it's really annoying when I try to explain something and, well, the Saxon subtlety gets in the way. And the intended recipient doesn't get what I'm talking about. But it's totally clear to me. Anyone else noticed this?

Summer, or, Why I'm Mad At My Mother

Right. Summer. In Texas. Sweltering heat. Luckily, it's not like I have plans for the summer right?

WRONG.

You see, my mother put me in a camp without asking me first, so I found out when summer started where I'd be (unhappily) spending most of my summer. And I hate it. The only people I knew when I first went there were two jerks that went to elementary school with me. And yes, I've met a few nice girls (no nice boys; they were all jerks), but it's mostly been forced physical activity and bad music. And good music played so much it becomes bad music. And then there's the sunburn...

Anyway, I'm not looking forward to another EIGHT WEEKS of it.
Whatever. At least I'm not actually doing summer homework. Even tho House of the Scorpion is an easy read...
